The Virtual Night

It has been some time since my last entry here, so let me catch you up a little.

I have spent some time organizing my thoughts on Goetic Night, to see if running it as a magazine would be a feasible venture.  This remains an iffy thing to me financially and timewise, but I will continue planning on Goetic Night as a horror and dark fantasy magazine whether in the next year or more likely within the next few years.  Goetic Night remains my pet project either way.

In the meantime, I have been exploring some virtual 3D worlds to see what they are like.  Yes, yes, I can almost hear it already…wasting time.  Well now, my virtual avatar is so far having an entertaining and enlightening time of it in places like Second Life.  Sure, there are also a few resident irritations and nutcases along with the majority of nicer people, but where would you not find that to be true on the internet?

While I have learned that some online gaming sites have even larger communities of players, the Second Life world of 50,000 to 80,000 people in-world daily seems a more freeform and socializing virtual world, allowing for expanded creative, promotional options in the virtual environment and avatar, not to mention the monetary exchange setup allowing for buy/sell of virtual goods and services.

So, my avatar works at some real world business promotional efforts, and manages to have a bit of fun along the virtual way.  In addition to the practical work and the fun interactions, I have also met a few established and aspiring creative people in the fields of science fiction, horror and fantasy there in-world, which was a delightful surprise.

I will have more to say about virtual worlds like that soon.

In the meantime…

Best regards,

GN
